Fortis Makes a Strong Case for the Square Chronograph

Fortis WatchesAlthough most modern chronographs are round, the Fortis Square makes a compelling case that it might be more hip to be square. Like all Fortis timepieces, this unique square shape is not just a fashion designer’s cosmetic whim. The perfect 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch stainless steel case finds its inspiration in the functional instrumentation typically found in an aircraft cockpit. Like a pilot’s altimeter or compass, a precision timing tool needs to be clear and readable under all conditions, and this is exactly what the Fortis Square Chronograph provides.

Fortis Square Chronograph Watch CollectionAlthough the 38 mm stainless steel Fortis Square has a distinct retro appeal, everything about the watch is extremely practical. An inset bezel and raised chapter ring places the hands of the watch at the same level at the minute scale, significantly enhancing readability. The black dial face and contrasting bold white lettering makes this one of the most legible chronographs on the market. Everything is perfectly positioned on this precision timing tool. Even the day-date window at 3 o’clock mimics the bold bar shaped indices at 6 and 9 o’clock for a seamless coordinated look.

With 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers — to track and display elapsed time — working in conjunction with a large orange sweep second hand, it is exceptionally easy to time a wide variety of events. Two well-positioned angled pushers on either side of a knurled stainless steel winding crown actuate all chronograph functions. There is also a free-running small seconds dial at 9 o’clock providing additional functionality.

Fortis Square Chronographs are powered by a precision Swiss made ETA automatic movement that can be viewed through a glass caseback window. The Square can be equipped with a top-quality 24 mm leather strap, or an integrated solid stainless steel bracelet. Several models of this exceptional timepiece are available. The Square Chronograph is water resistant to 330 feet.
