Giulio Romano – Emblem of Italy Caseback

by John Sealander

From the multi-talented Renaissance painter who is the brand’s
namesake, to the Italian coat of arms on every caseback,

Giulio Romano timepieces are a celebration of Italy’s heritage.

Giulio Romano WatchesIt’s no surprise that that the enormously talented Mannerist painter Giulio Romano became the namesake for an exciting new collection of Italian timepieces. From their unique stainless steel crown with seven raised dots, to the Italian coat of arms engraved on each caseback, every Giulio Romano timepiece is a celebration of Italy’s rich cultural heritage.

Emblem of ItalyThe emblem of Italy, engraved on the back of each watch, represents the richness and diversity of Italy. The five-pointed star, or stellone d’italia, represents the protection provided by the army of the Italian Republic.

The gear in the center represents the Italian constitution that governs the republic of Italy and the willingness of the Italian people to work hard to achieve their goals. The oak and olive branches flanking this cogwheel represent the beautiful landscape of Italy and the productivity of the fertile land. When this emblem was first proposed in 1946 under the leadership of Alcide De Gasperi, it was put to a vote of the Italian people who chose the design themselves.

Italy uses this distinctive coat of arms to this day and it has become a source of pride to all Italians. To further celebrate its Italian roots, each Giulio Romano Collection is named after a different region in Italy and shows off a different aspect of Italian style and design.

Giulio Romano Toscana Collection

Leaning Tower of Pisa Tuscana Italy

by John Sealander

A tribute to the Bauhaus Movement
from the Heart of the Italian Renaissance

Giulio Romano WatchesTuscany, or Toscana as it is known in Italy, has a rich and diverse artistic heritage. The region was the birthplace of artistic luminaries such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, along with many other greats. With the artistic city of Florence as its capital, Toscana is so unique that it became a fitting name for one of Giulio Romano’s most artistic timepiece collections.

The Giulio Romano Toscana Collection is simply spectacular. The bold use of color and form pays homage to the German Bauhaus Movement, while retaining a distinctly Italian flavor. Toscana timepieces are available in two versions: a crisply styled three-hand model and a distinctive multifunction model.

Both of these stunning 44mm timepieces feature stylish raised metallic indices with a 60-minute scale around the chapter ring. Toscana watches utilize boldly architectural skeletonized hands, which have been painted in bright primary colors. These unique and colorful hands are the Toscana’s signature. They are reminiscent of the famous Bauhaus styles from the 1930’s, while adding a touch of modern Italian playfulness.

Buy Giulio Romano WatchesThe result of these harmonious elements is modern Italian design at its very best. The Toscana’s 316L stainless steel case is equipped with classically styled lugs and Giulio Romano’s signature red crown with seven raised dots and the GR logo. The multifunction version of the Toscana is powered by an ISA 9238 movement and uses three colorful subdials to indicate the day, date and 24-hour time. The refined three-hand version, powered by a Ronda 1069 movement, utilizes a stylish continuous small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.
