Louis Erard Unveils New Excellence Regulator Power Reserve at Baselworld 2012

by John Sealander

Louis Erard WatchesRegulator watches have always been held in high regard by watch aficionados. The unique dial configuration, with a central minute hand and separate subdials to indicate the hours and seconds, originated with legendary clockmaker George Graham in the late eighteenth century. Grahams’s highly accurate regulator clocks were used for making astronomical observations and the special dial made it easier for astronomers to determine the exact time.

Louis Erard Excellence Regulator Power Reserve CollectionWhen watchmakers were finally able to transform these large observatory clocks into precision wristwatches, the design of the dial remained essentially unchanged. The master watchmakers at Louis Erard have always had a special place in their hearts for the regulator wristwatch. That’s why they are introducing a brand new regulator design at Baselworld 2012. The Louis Erard Excellence Regulator Power Reserve is a fitting addition to the brand’s outstanding Excellence Collection.

These precisely crafted timepieces delicately blend horological tradition with modern design. With its exclusive “in-house” power reserve complication, the new Excellence Regulator Power Reserve watch is a testament to the company’s ongoing policy of manufacturing 100-percent mechanical, classically styled timepieces.

A hand wound ETA Calibre 7001 movement powers this spectacular 40mm timepiece. The polished stainless steel case is water resistant to 130 feet and has been fitted with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that has been treated on both sides. The beautiful silver-tone regulator-style dial features a central minutes display with an offset hour counter. A secondary seconds display at six o’clock and the power reserve complication at nine o’clock complete the attractive dial.
