Fortis Receives Congratulations From Space

Fortis Receives Congratulations From Space

by John Sealander

You Know you’ve got a Winner When
Three Astronauts Congratulate you From Space

Fortis WatchesFortis has been involved with developing timepieces specifically designed to withstand the rigors of space travel for over forty years. In 1994, the Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph Automatic became part of the regulation equipment handed over to cosmonauts before each launch. To this day, every cosmonaut and astronaut who goes through the training program at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia receives a Fortis watch as part of their official space equipment.

Unlike some “high performance watches,” a Fortis space watch is the real thing. Fortis watches have been into orbit many times and to this day are still the only official timepieces of the Russian Space Program. To celebrate the company’s long and illustrious involvement with manned spaceflight, astronauts Oleg Novitsky, Evgeny Tarelkin and Roman Romanenko recently sent their congratulations to the Fortis team for a job well done directly from the International Space Station.

This special message in honor of the Fortis 100 Year Centennial also included the presentation of a special flag of the Russian Federation, complete with the signature and stamp of the International Space Station. This special flag will occupy a place of honor at the Fortis Museum when the astronauts return to earth. The astronaut’s Fortis watches will occupy a place of honor as well: on their wrists!

Fortis Sponsors Swiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatics Team

Swiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatics Team

by John Sealander

The Elegance and Precision of the Swiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatics Team Is a Thing of Beauty, So is the Watch They Depend On

Fortis WatchesSwiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatic Team, View From the AirIt comes as no surprise that Fortis timepieces have been designated as official equipment for the elite Swiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatics Team. Fortis has been a favorite of aviators and astronauts since they began manufacturing their first precision chronographs in the 1930’s. Cosmonauts and astronauts still receive a Fortis watch as part of their official space equipment when they complete their training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. Many air force squadrons around the world have also turned to Fortis for timekeeping solutions. Fortis even has a special squadron program and allows flying squadrons to customize a Fortis timepiece with their own official insignia.

With its rich heritage among pilots and aviators, Fortis was proud to sponsor the prestigious Swiss Air Force PC-7 Aerobatics Team and provide them with the accurate and reliable aviation timepieces they depend on. As ambassadors of the Swiss Air Force, the PC-7 Aerobatics Team demonstrates the elegance and beauty of precise formation flying at its very best. Nine fighter pilots, each flying a Pilatus PC-7 training aircraft inspire hundreds of thousands of spectators every year with a program of exciting maneuvers and stunts, all executed while flying only a few meters from each other.

The precision maneuvers performed by the PC-7 team require exact timing. That’s why the team relies on timepieces that have a reputation for providing aviators with exactly what the need. The Fortis B-42 and B-47 Collections have been a favorite of pilots for many years and the all-new Fortis F-43 Collection is proving equally popular with a new generation of aviators.

The PC-7 “Flying Diamond” team has inspired countless young people to pursue a career in aviation themselves. The nine Swiss pilots, the Swiss made Fortis timepieces they depend on, and the Swiss made Pilatus PC-7 aircraft they fly are all a testament to Switzerland’s unique ability to bring quality, precision, and craftsmanship to the world. Fortis is proud to be a part of this illustrious team. Over 100 years after it was founded by watchmaker Walter Vogt, Fortis continues to set the pace for other watch companies to follow.

Claude Bernard Ambassador Matt Grevers Breaks Record

Matt Grevers After Breaking American Backstroke Record

by John Sealander

Claude Bernard Ambassador Matt Grevers
Wastes No Time in Breaking New Records

Claude Bernard Swiss-Made WatchesAfter winning two gold medals and one silver at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, American swimming champion Matt Grevers wasn’t ready to rest on his laurels. On Friday, November 30, 2012, Grevers set a new American record in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 44.55 seconds at the AT&T Short Course Winter Nationals in Austin Texas.

The fact that the previous record, set by Ryan Lochte in 2006, has stood throughout the entire high-tech suit era shows just how fast a time Grevers record setting win really was. Matt, always the competitor, wasted no time getting back into racing shape after his amazing performance at the London Olympics. His impressive win at the Winter Nationals is a good indication that his best swimming days are still ahead of him. Since the previous 100-yard backstroke American and US Open record were the same, Grevers will now hold the record for both of them. The future looks bright for this brilliant young swimmer.

As the current brand ambassador for Claude Bernard timepieces, Matt Grevers is well aware of the importance of time. In competitive swimming, sometimes only a fraction of a second separates the winners from the losers. That’s why Matt has chosen to wear the Claude Bernard Aquarider as his personal timepiece. Although he could have chosen virtually any watch to wear, Grevers likes the Aquarider’s precision, style, and durability.

This superb 42 mm stainless steel professional diver chronograph is water resistant to 720 feet and features a protected crown and pushers. Powered by a precision, Swiss made quartz movement and equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel, along with three chronograph subdials that record intervals of 30 minutes, 12 hours and continuous seconds, this rugged, dependable watch is well equipped to time virtually any event…including future record breaking attempts.

Although the Swiss made Claude Bernard Aquarider isn’t as well-known as Matt Grevers himself, it shares his well-deserved reputation. Both Matt and the watch he wears are world-class performers. If you’d like to wear the same timepiece that this record setting champion wears, contact your authorized Claude Bernard dealer today and ask to see the Aquarider Collection.

Fortis Zero-G Space Art Contest

Fortis Zero-G Space Art Contest

by John Sealander

After 100 Years of Going Where No Watch Has Gone Before,
Fortis Wanted to Give Their Fans the Same Opportunity

Fortis WatchesFortis has a reputation for going where no watch has gone before. Ever since some of the original Mercury astronauts chose to wear the Fortis Spacematic watch, the brand has been a favorite among aviators and astronauts. There are Fortis watches on board the International Space Station. Fortis has been the official timepiece of the Russian space program since 1997 and all cosmonauts and astronauts leaving the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia still receive a Fortis watch as part of their official space equipment. Fortis still has the distinction of being the first watch worn in open space, after a Fortis watch was worn outside the spacecraft on an early Russian spacewalk.

To celebrate these unique achievements, Fortis is having an equally unique contest during their 100th Anniversary year. From September 1st, 2012 through March 31, 2013, Fortis is inviting anyone who has ever thought about space and space travel to submit their ideas and artistic expressions to the world’s first Zero-G Space Art Contest.

The winner of this unique contest will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to leave planet earth and experience the incomparable feeling of weightlessness on board a special parabolic aircraft flight that simulates the sensations of orbital flight. The lucky winner will accompany scientists from the German Sport University of Cologne on board a specially equipped Zero-G aircraft as they explore the sensations of weightlessness. The winner of this unique contest will also be equipped with the same Fortis B-42 Official Cosmonauts Chronograph worn by astronauts on the International Space Station.

Anyone over the age of 18 can enter the Fortis Zero-G Space Art Contest by submitting their original artwork or videos to the Fortis Space Art Gallery. Winners will be determined by a vote of the online community. Get your friends to vote for your entry, because the entry with the most votes wins. There is even a prize for voting, since everyone who votes in this unique contest will be entered in a special drawing to win a second Fortis B-42 Official Cosmonauts Chronograph. The more votes your entry receives, the closer you are to a weightless parabolic flight on board the Zero-G aircraft.

Enter Contest

Almost any original drawing, photo, painting or video related to your thoughts and feelings about space is eligible for this special celebration of 100 years of Fortis innovation. Get started now, and you may be in for the ride of your life.
