New Louis Erard Regulator with Power Reserve Using In-House Module Introduced at Baselworld 2012

by Boris Pjanic

Louis Erard WatchesLouis Erard recently introduced at Baselworld 2012 a new regulator with power reserve as part of their Excellence Collection. You may wonder while looking at the picture below how you read the time? Well, there is an offset hour counter at twelve o’clock, a central minutes hand, and a seconds hand at 6 o’clock while the power reserve is indicated at 9 o’clock.

This timepiece comes either in steel or rose gold. I am not aware of a limited edition. It uses an in-house regulator power reserve complication. That Louis Erard is starting to create their own modules may be the beginning of something wonderful, perhaps the way to bring back history to this wonderful brand as a true watch “manufacture.”

The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides guarantees excellent legibility. The caseback is decorated, and I would have loved to see the caseback through a sapphire crystal to admire the beautifully finished hand-wound movement. Nevertheless, this watch with its flat case sits comfortably on your wrist while providing adequate weight to make you feel that you are wearing a mechanical timepiece of Swiss manufacture.

On a hand-wound watch, I really find the power reserve complication very useful. You know when the time comes to wind your watch and will not miss it.

All this is offered at a truly affordable price point at your authorized Louis Erard dealer.

Gio Monaco WatchesThe artistic flair and technical expertise of Giuseppe and Michele Ascione were on center stage at Baselworld 2012, when the two brothers unveiled several spectacular new additions to the Gio Monaco line. The new Scacco Matto and Rainbow Collections are both based on Gio Monaco’s popular 101 Collection.

Both of these new models were created to satisfy a growing demand for larger, oversize timepieces. The impressive, oversized 47.5 mm case has been built around an entirely new bezel design utilizing rectangular cells that allow diamonds as large as 2 mm to be set around the edge. If you thought a men’s Gio Monaco 101 with an 81-diamond bezel was impressive, just wait until you see one of these! The Scacco Matto and Rainbow Collections are available with or without diamonds and utilize the classic Gio Monaco color palette of silver, black and dark brown. There are even models available featuring a spectacular combination of black and white diamonds.

The Scacco Matto, which translates as “Checkmate” in English, features a classic, refined dial in a precise pattern that is reminiscent of a chessboard. The colorful Rainbow features a unique dial with artfully painted brush stroke numbers in pastel rainbow hues. Both new Collections are available in stainless steel, Black PVD and Rose Gold PVD.

Like the 101 Collection that inspired them, the new Scacco Matto and Rainbow Collections feature high quality Swiss made movements, anti-reflective sapphire crystals and screw-down dodecagonal crowns. Each of these fine timepieces is fitted with a genuine alligator strap and comfortable deployment buckle.

If you have been an admirer of Gio Monaco’s unique combination of sophisticated style and mechanical perfection, here is your chance to use the Ascione brothers’ unique brand of watchmaking artistry to make an even bigger, bolder and brighter statement. If you would like to see one of these impressive 47.5 mm works of art on your own wrist, contact your authorized Gio Monaco dealer today and reserve your Scacco Matto or Rainbow timepiece immediately.

Louis Erard 1931 Small Seconds Debuts at Baselworld 2012

by Boris Pjanic

Louis Erard WatchesBaselworld 2012 offered the opportunity to view the latest issues of upcoming timepieces. It was especially interesting on Press Day, the day before the official start of Baselworld. My first appointment this year was with Louis Erard who was introducing several new timepieces.

One of the new watches was the hand wound stainless-steel Louis Erard 1931 Small Seconds timepiece, powered by a Peseux 7001 movement. This new watch displays hours, minutes and seconds in a 40mm flat case that lays very nicely on one’s wrist, as I found for myself when I tried it on. The watch is available with three dial options: blue, silver-toned and grey, which sit under a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The blue and the silver dial possess gilded indices, which create a very special effect. The grey dial watch, however, has silver-toned hour-markers instead.

I snapped the photos below on Baselworld Press Day 2012. You can see the grey- and silver-dial versions on the left in the second row. I have tried to capture the shiny blue colors of the blue dialed timepiece despite the adverse lighting conditions that day.

The Louis Erard 1931 Small Seconds is rounded off with a genuine leather strap. The grey dial version features a coffee-colored strap, the silver dial timepiece comes with a brown strap, and the blue dial watch sports a matching blue leather strap.

All the finishings of this understated timepiece are perfect. They reflect a powerful, sophisticated and pure creation, and while the new Louis Erard 1931 offerings are imbued with the Haute Horlogerie spirit, these watches are made available through your authorized Louis Erard dealer at surprisingly affordable prices.

As the new ambassador for saint Honoré, world famous Ukrainian ballet dancer Kateryna Shalkina set the tone for the Baselworld debut of the 2012 saint Honoré collections. Ten spectacular new timepieces were introduced this year, each adding to the Paris-based brand’s reputation as a fashion-forward trendsetter.
