The Buzz Was All About Versace at Couture 2013
If new orders are any indication, a lot of people are going to be wearing Versace on their wrist in 2013. According to Kari Allen, President of Versace Timepieces for the USA and Caribbean, the trend-setting Versace and Versus brands have become “must have” fashion accessories that drew a steady stream of buyers to the Chambertin 2 Ballroom during the prestigious Couture watch and jewelry show at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.
“We had our best year ever,” says Allen, adding that business was brisk throughout the recently completed five-day event. With watches increasingly being viewed as essential fashion accessories rather than simple time keeping instruments, the beautiful Versace and Versus displays were popular destinations for jewelers and retailers. Many of these largely North American retailers did not attend the watch and jewelry show in Baselworld earlier this Spring, so this was their first opportunity to see the spectacular selection of new watch lines and line extensions being introduced by Versace during 2013.
Retailers loved Versace’s spectacular new Thea Collection. The strikingly original ladies Thea features a slim, flaring case that is completely free of the traditional lugs that attach the strap. This iconic masterpiece uses the characteristic Greek key motif and Medusa studs to bring Versace’s distinctive personality to this delicately creative design.
The big, bold Versace Reve Chrono was another crowd favorite at Couture 2013. The popular Reve has long been considered one of the Maison’s most successful watch collections. Now, with the introduction of the new Reve Chrono line extension, this iconic timepiece becomes more desirable than ever. This oversize 46 mm unisex style is classic Versace from the iconic Medusa in bold relief at twelve o’clock to the Versace logo repeated on both sides of the bezel.
There was certainly plenty of buzz about the all-new Vanitas Collection. The delicately beautiful Vanitas will be available in stores later this Fall and features a refined quilted effect on the strap, a unique and very distinctive baroque patterned dial, along with Versace’s iconic Greek key circumscribed around the top ring.
From the complex and compelling DV One Skeleton watch, with its intricate partially skeletonized two hemisphere dial, to the brightly colored new Dafne Collection, it was easy to see why Versace watches have become an essential part of any savvy jeweler’s and retailer’s inventory. These are the timepieces that today’s fashionistas covet, and from the looks of the order book at Couture 2013, few retailers wanted to risk running out of these essential fashion accessories.
The Couture Show may be over for another year, but the show is just beginning for Versace as fashion-forward men and women begin to discover this year’s new styles at their favorite retailer.
