Moon Phase Gevril Cortland Watch Collection

Gevril’s Tribute to New York’s Radio Row

Gevril WatchesMuch of the New York skyline was erected during the Roaring Twenties, and with that boom came a multitude of districts and businesses to support the prospering economy. One district, located in the city’s Lower West Side, was known as Radio Row; it comprised several blocks of mostly electronics stores with Cortlandt Street at its epicenter.

Buy Gevril CortlandFor 40 years Radio Row was the place for New Yorkers to source parts for radios and later televisions. Most of Radio Row was eventually razed in the mid-’60s to make way for the World Trade Center. Now however, the once-great thoroughfare is the subject of a new Gevril timepiece – the Cortland.

The Cortland is another in Gevril’s line of dressy men’s watches, a complicated version of the stylish Gevril Park, with which it shares its overall appearance and fundamental design qualities. Similarities include the 39 mm stainless steel case with screw-down crown and the highly detailed dial; specifically, the guilloche-style engraving, a seconds track bordered with scalloped edges and a date window at 3 o’clock.

The large, legible Roman numerals and pomme tipped hands swoop up years of history and celebrate the golden age of watchmaking. As do the watch’s two additional complications: a 24-hour sub-dial that records a second time zone, and a moon-phase register to track the changing position of the moon.

There are two dial colors: silver or black. Black-dial models are paired with silver-color hands while the silver-dial models employ silver or gold IP hands. The case and bezel are both polished stainless steel, as is the bracelet. And there is a variation of the case and bracelet in yellow gold IP stainless steel.

Another highlight of the Cortland is the case back: it features an engraving of a 1908 scene along Cortlandt Street, with the Glen Island Hotel in the foreground and the Singer Building in the distance (the highest building in the world at the time). The engraving also indicates the watch’s limited edition number – each variation is one in a series of 500.

Versions of the watch in yellow gold IP come mounted on matching gold IP stainless steel beaded bracelets with double-folding deployant clasps, or on brown alligator-pattern leather straps with deployant folding clasps. Non-gold models employ polished stainless steel bracelets and black alligator-pattern leather straps. The variety allows the wearer the option of a more formal pairing on leather, or a versatile sport option on steel.

Buy Gevril CortlandIn recognition of Cortlandt Street’s place in the lore of electronic-age Americana, the Gevril Cortland is powered by a state-of-the-art electronic Swiss quartz movement. Limited Edition Gevril Park Watch Collection

Gevril Park Watch Collection

by Adrian Herscovici

Absolute Gevril

Gevril WatchesMost collectors are familiar with the Gevril tradition of crafting sophisticated, Swiss made gentlemen’s watches with New York City themes. These include classics such as the ultra-elegant Avenue of Americas and sporty Tribeca chronograph. The new Gevril Park collection maintains this longstanding custom, named after Park Avenue – one of New York City’s iconic grand boulevards – which reaches from Union Square in lower Manhattan and stretches north up the city’s east side, past Central Park, through Harlem and beyond.

Buy Gevril ParkLike their Park Avenue namesake, Park timepieces have great range – they are refined dress watches that also wear well in more informal scenarios. This flexibility comes down to strap and bracelet options; when mounted on alligator-patterned leather straps, Gevril Park watches are as dressy as can be; but mount them on polished beaded bracelets, and they’re ready for an even wider array of settings and activities.

The dial has numerous enduring elements to admire, all of which speak to the art of fine watchmaking. The central area has a distinguished circular guilloche-style engraving, while the surrounding brushed ring provides a strong contrasting base for the large black Roman numerals.

At the outer edge of the dial, the seconds track is set off by delicate scalloped ridges. And the hands – pomme style blued steel – are abundantly complementary to the dial’s old-world aesthetics. The Park’s sole complication is a date display, which appears in a neatly framed aperture at 3 o’clock.

The mid-size 39 mm polished case is appropriate for a dress watch and still large enough to meet contemporary case trends. The design is symmetrical and unembellished, as not to distract the eye away from the details of the dial. The lugs extend and sharply tilt to match the end links of the bracelet and also to create a clean line for the strap.

A Gevril logo is embossed on the fluted screw-down crown. Even more detail appears on the Park’s caseback, which features an engraving of a Park Avenue panorama in addition to the text “Individually Swiss Handcrafted” and the watch’s limited edition number (each variation in the Park collection is one of 500).

Gevril Park Case Back

There are three case-and-dial variations. The first is a silver dial with a stainless steel case; the second is a black dial with a stainless steel case; and the third is a silver dial with yellow gold IP stainless steel case. The silver- and black-dial models come mounted on a choice of the aforementioned stainless steel beaded bracelet with a double-folding deployant clasp, or on a black alligator-pattern leather strap with deployant folding clasp.

Models with yellow gold IP stainless steel cases have silver dials and the option of a yellow gold IP stainless steel bracelet or brown alligator-pattern leather strap. Gold IP case versions also feature matching gold IP hands.

Buy Gevril ParkFor Gevril, quality components are second to none: antireflective sapphire crystal is standard on every Park model, as is the robust Swiss Ronda 715 quartz movement. Gevril Park timepieces are smart-looking and well suited to formal occasions or more dress-down affairs, and represent another compelling example of the ongoing affiliation between Gevril watches and the City of New York. Fashion and Watch Color Trends for Fall 2015

Color Trends for Fall 2015 Fashion and Watches

Cozy up to the hottest colors for Fall 2015, a universally flattering range of nature-inspired hues that make saying goodbye to summer a bit easier.

Reflecting the increasing style-consciousness of today’s man, the menswear shows went beyond the usual neutrals to bring in bolder colors. In the women’s ready-to-wear collections, designers’ use of color recalled some of the biggest style moments of the 20th century, from the Art Deco glamour of the 1920s to the bohemian chic of the 1970s. It’s simple to transition into the new season by making a style statement with a watch in one of these versatile shades.

Cashmere Rose

This muted pink feels vintage and at the same time totally of-the-moment, just as this 70s-inspired Versace dress would be right at home at Coachella. Instead of an in-your-face bubblegum, Cashmere Rose evokes an earthy vibe that is perfectly picked up in the textured leather band of the Versace Dylos Lady VQD010015. Its softness is the ideal counterpoint to classic Versace details like the studs marking the hours and the Greek key pattern surrounding the face.

Biscay Blue

The intensely saturated color in this Alberta Ferretti gown adds to the sumptuousness of the fabric and drape, while also bringing this 1920s-inspired silhouette into the 21st century. (If Jay Gatsby invited you to a party next week, this is what you would wear.) With a timepiece like the Ferragamo Idillio Chronograph FI3030014, you can create your own Gatsby moment. The combination of the rich, modern hue with the timeless luxury of a mother-of-pearl face and yellow gold plating makes it a modern heirloom.

Amethyst Orchid

This beautiful jewel tone is just right for this gem of an evening gown from Tadashi Shoji. The nude underlay emphasizes the rippling skirt, creating a whole range of shades with just one color. The rippling effect on the silver face of the Ferragamo Intreccio FIC010015 is similarly elegant. The motif echoes a structural weaving technique Salvatore Ferragamo often used, called intreccio, layering woven material in a single hue to create deep color and texture.

Oak Buff

Shades of yellow have been standouts for several seasons, and this fall the forecast calls for this deeper yet comforting tone. This look from Zac Posen uses Oak Buff to outstanding effect, the single color playing up the textural contrast of luminous fabric and plush fur. The Versace Vanity P5Q80D999 S999 brings the same impact, with the mix of matte and polished golds in the face and bezel juxtaposed against a textured calfskin band.

Marsala

Christian Dior menswear is consistently sharp-lined and sculptural, but usually sticks to shades of black and gray. This season, Dior Homme stayed true to that classic styling while adding a new neutral—the sophisticated yet earthy Marsala. This versatile shade can be incorporated into any man’s wardrobe. The Ferragamo 1898 Sport FF322 0015 is a simple way to work this color into your look, and with a canvas band it’s as functional as it is stylish.

Dried Herb

Ready to push the color envelope a bit further? This bolder neutral—layered in a variety of textures in this look from Coach—isn’t just for camouflage. Set off against bold black, this organic shade stands out from the crowd. Paired with pops of white and a black leather band in the Fortis Flieger Cockpit 595.11.16 L.01, Dried Herb elevates the look of this modern timepiece.

Stormy Weather

Forget 50 Shades of Grey—this cool, blue-tinged gray is the only shade you’ll need for fall. Gray is the ultimate workhorse neutral in both men’s and women’s wear; you can pair it with ivory or camel, contrast it with pops of brightness, or of course deepen it with black. No matter what, you won’t go wrong. The same can be said for the Gevril Columbus Circle 2006. Like Stormy Weather, it’s handsome but straightforward, with multiple functions and luminous hands for maximum utility.

Cadmium Orange

If you’re ready to take the plunge into some serious color, a statement piece in this vibrant yet understated bright is the way to do it. You can go major, like in this trendy coat from Ami, but you can also take a more subtle approach. A pop of color—like when your cuff reveals the Haurex Caimano N1354UNO—shows that you can have fun with fashion while still being appropriate for the office. With a rubber band and water resistance, this watch is perfect for that winter beach getaway, too.

The best news yet? Fall’s hot colors work for either sex, so there are no limits to how you can style them. And starting off with an exceptional accessory is the ideal way to work one of these new hues into your wardrobe.

Ferragamo Gancino Bracelet Watch Collection

Ferragamo Gancino Bracelet Watch Collection

by Adrian Herscovici

Florentine Enchantment

Ferragamo WatchesA great cocktail watch is a piece of jewelry that should be at once classy and carefree; it should express both whimsy and sophisticated charm, and it should be unmistakably high society – in other words, everything that defines the great fashion house of Ferragamo.

The new Gancino Bracelet collection by Ferragamo is a series of cocktail watches that paints a dreamy picture of the Italian high-life, be it a summer party in a Medici garden or a black-tie evening affair in a palazzo along the banks of the Arno River.

The narrative begins with a dial arrangement of minimal detailing, a refined composition of delicate stick hands and small round indices at the quarters. The Ferragamo wordmark floats below 12 o’clock and the diminutive words “Swiss Made” indicate the watch’s origins. Such simplicity is, of course, intentional, and means not to distract from the beauty of the case and the exceptional bracelet.

Buy Ferragamo Gancino Bracelet Watch CollectionThere are two different styles of dial to revel in: a sunray pattern (in black or brown), or a rich enamel (in black, brown, orange or fuchsia). Those with the sunray pattern shimmer and change tone and texture in reflected light, and Ferragamo pairs these with its new tortoiseshell acetate bangles with inlays in one of three colors: grey, tobacco or fuchsia. The enamel dials, on the other hand, are rich, deep and uniform in color. Each enamel-dial model has a matching calf-leather bangle.

The case of the watch is in the shape of Ferragamo’s iconic emblem – the gancino – and comes in stainless steel or steel coated with gold IP. The case is a petite 25.5 mm in diameter, not including the gancino’s perpendicular ornament.

The simplistic beauty of the gancino requires no additional embellishment, although a profile view of the watch reveals further dimensionality in the case composition. The watch is entirely polished except for the caseback, which has a brushed finish, and every version of the Gancino Bracelet contains a Swiss made Ronda 751 quartz movement and features a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

In its final act, the Gancino Bracelet reveals the design of its two-part bracelet: the first section is a bangle (in leather or tortoiseshell acetate) that transitions seamlessly into the second section, a stainless steel or gold IP link bracelet that locks by way of a small clasp (rather than a traditional prong buckle or folding clasp), the result of which is a fit more akin to a bracelet than a watch. The effect of these multifaceted bracelets raises the Gancino Bracelet into a category of glamor all on its own.

Buy Ferragamo Gancino Bracelet Watch CollectionWhether your intent is to sip Prosecco in a Tuscan piazza, or simply to elevate your favorite weekend ensemble, the Ferragamo Gancino Bracelet is an undeniably chic addition to your watch wardrobe – in fact, it may become the only watch you wear. Fortis Terrestis Watch Collection

Fortis Terrestis Watch Collection - 19Fortis

by John Sealander

If you thought that Fortis only made tool watches, the new Terrestis Collection will remind you of a time when Fortis made milestones.

Fortis WatchesMany of you know Fortis as the watchmaker who produces some of the world’s best aviator and space watches. What many forget is that Fortis gained their reputation as a manufacturer of superlative tool watches by astounding the world with a long series of horological milestones back in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Buy Fortis TerrestisIn fact, as far back as 1926 Fortis amazed the world with the first practical self-winding automatic watch movement. They brought some of the first waterproof watches to the world with their popular Fortissimo models. These pioneers of the watchmaking art continued to innovate throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, bringing their technical expertise and classic style to a succession of groundbreaking timepieces.

Fortis pays homage to these iconic masterpieces with their new Terrestis Collection. Inspired by popular Fortis timepieces from the golden age of watchmaking, the Terrestis Collection combines classic style with state-of-the-art technology.
