Versace and Versus Watches Have Couture Las Vegas Abuzz

Versace WatchesWith Creative Director Donatella Versace as the guide of her eponymous brand, there was sure to be a grand spectacle to showcase new product at the Couture 2014 annual watch and jewelry show held from May 28th-June 2nd in glittery Las Vegas, Nevada at the Wynn hotel. The show started off with a bang, with R&B superstar Janelle Monáe performing an opening night concert. However, based on the reaction of the attendees, the real stars of the show were the new Versace and Versus watch collections.

From its beginnings, Versace has always taken the road less traveled with its progressive and trailblazing style, leading the fashion world in fresh directions. The brand has introduced such disparate areas as rock and roll, theatre, ballet and celebrity into a coherent whole. These signatures are on full display in the Versace Urban Gent men’s and Day Glam women’s watches.

The Versace Urban Gent is a dress watch that certainly lives up to its name. For the sophisticated gentleman, it plays the part with elegance and style that exhibits a man’s fashionable taste. Since this is a Versace timepiece, the Urban Gent offers a twist to the traditional dress watch, giving it both originality and a fashion-forward look.

Versace crafted the Urban Gent in a modern 44 mm stainless steel case with beveled lugs, disrupting the idea that a dress watch has to come in a smaller size to qualify in the category. Details are the specialty of Versace and the Urban Gent abounds with them. The dial features applied Roman numerals (at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock) and bar indicators to mark the hours, with the iconic Medusa head presiding at 12 o’clock. The other iconic hallmark of Versace, the Greek key, appears around a decorative sunken dial, which houses the sunken off-center sub-seconds and date window within. The layering of the dial provides a visually compelling texture and 3-D effect.

Offered with a white, black or blue dial, the Urban Gent comes in a stainless steel, IP rose gold and IP black case and is produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

For women, Versace introduced the 38 mm Day Glam. Since women have become increasingly attracted to complications, Versace provided with the popular chronograph done in a way that is inimitably Versace.

Though the chronograph was born as a men’s watch with masculine styling, Versace managed to combine the sporty feel of a chrono in a feminine package. The Day Glam comes in a nicely proportioned 38 mm stainless steel case with faceted lugs that allows room for good dial visibility while taking into account a woman’s wrist size.

The mother-of-pearl dial features golden illuminated skeletonized hands with illuminated golden applied baton markers anchored by the iconic Medusa head, also in gold. In a tri-compax layout, the chronograph times intervals in hours, minutes and seconds and is operated by the two pushers in the case located at 2 and 4 o’clock. There is also a tachymeter scale around the beveled chapter ring of the dial and a date window at 4 o’clock.

The Versace Day Glam is offered in an array of fluorescent colors: turquoise, bronze, candy pink, and black and white with the nice touch of a matching cabochon capping the crown. Cases are available in stainless steel or IP rose gold and wrap around the wrist with matching leather straps. There is also the option of a two-tone metal bracelet with geometric central elements.

Versus Watches

Versace also debuted two exciting watch additions to the Versus line, which is the rock and roll soul of Versace. The Versus Key Biscane and Coconut Grove models take their inspiration from the international style found in South Florida, where fashionistas set the tone.

The Key Biscane is dressed up like a rock and roll star with its edgy looks and daring design. First glance draws attention to the band, which frames the dial. A real working zipper is embedded in the topstitched leather strap. But the embellishments don’t stop there. The hallmark Versus Lion safety pin hangs from the bottom lug in a cut out circle.

Since the strap makes such a strong statement, the dial goes simpler in style so as not to overwhelm the aesthetic. It features dauphine hands and a raised metal chapter ring that hosts four Versus studs for indices at the quarter hours. The Versus logo is placed prominently in the 12 o’clock position.

The Key Biscane comes in a choice of lively dial colors marking the season, such as white, black, orange, fuchsia and lime green that match the band. Depending upon the color, the watch sits in a stainless steel or IP yellow gold case.

As indicated by its name, the Coconut Grove watch is a bit tamer than the Key Biscane but no less fashionable and hip. In Miami-Dade County, Coconut Grove is the oldest modern neighborhood in Miami so you would expect sophistication from a watch named in its honor. The Coconut Grove comes through in spades.

The Coconut Grove’s dial is like a trompe l’oeil painting with its geometric Versus stud pattern that gives a three dimensional effect. Dauphine hands circle round applied golden baton markers. Because of the clever pattern, the eye is continually drawn into the illusion of the shifting dial.

The Coconut Grove case gets a bit saucier by placing studs on the bezel, revealing that rock and roll soul with flair. It comes in a 38 mm round case strapped to the wrist with a linked bracelet featuring the Versus studs. There are several selections in the collection including dials in shades of white, black and gold on stainless steel, IP gold or two-tone bracelets.

There was good reason that customers flocked to the Versace and Versus watch booths. They created a buzz because their designs always foretell the fashion-forward look. But that’s not unusual for Versace.

Ferragamo Watches Impressive Showing at Couture Las Vegas 2014

Ferragamo WatchesPeople didn’t have to travel all the way to Switzerland to get hands on with the latest releases from the Ferragamo watch collection. One of the most important luxury trade shows took place in the United States in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the spectacular Wynn Hotel from May 28th-June 2nd. In its 17th year Las Vegas Couture 2014 hosted retailers, designers and manufacturers to showcase the best the industry had to offer.

Ferragamo is always a favorite and attendees flocked to the Salvatore Ferragamo watch booth to view the latest offerings. Completely redesigned for this year, the booth provided a perfect backdrop for the watches using deep red coloring for the displays and gauzy curtains that reminded of Ferragamo haute couture fabric, for a completely luxurious and comfortable experience.

Extolled for their trendsetting and sumptuous designs, the powerhouse fashion brand didn’t disappoint. They presented two new exciting watch collections that caused a stir, one for men and the other for women.

For the men, Ferragamo took on the ever popular dive watch. With the Ferragamo 1898 Sport Collection, the house crafted a timepiece that not only meets the specifications for underwater activities with panache but also gives the category a contemporary and modern style. In a perfectly sized 43 mm stainless steel case, the Ferragamo 1898 Sport Collection keeps time with a unidirectional bezel and can deep dive to 660 feet while still maintaining its water resistance.

The Ferragamo 1898 Sport Collection will elevate everything from casual attire to both wet and dry suits, making it the perfect all around watch. Appealing to different tastes, the Ferragamo 1898 Sport Collection is offered in six eye-catching styles that feature a black and white dial in a choice of stainless steel and stainless steel and IP gold bracelets, as well as an option with a two-tone caoutchouc strap.

In addition to debuting the irresistible Ferragamo 1898 Sport Collection dive watch for men, Ferragamo also wowed women with the new Ferragamo Buckle Watch Collection. The designers used the iconic Ferragamo Gancino symbol and translated it into a watch that’s not only beautiful but also highly original.

In the shape of a clasp (English translation for gancino), the design feels like a work of art on the wrist through its use of negative space and asymmetrical layout. The top part of the case resembles the fastening element of the buckle while the time only watch dial resides in the bottom of the buckle shape, with the crown artistically placed on top.

The Ferragamo Buckle Collection comes in a 37 mm stainless steel or IP gold case with dial colors in champagne, silver, dark brown and black, which are accentuated by the dashing details of guilloche and four genuine diamond indices. The six different band variations add nice pops of color, including tobacco, orange, black and fuchsia. The Ferragamo Buckle Watch Collection was designed to match the new and very stylish eyewear Buckle Collection.

It was clear the attendees were thrilled with what they saw at Ferragamo’s watch booth. “The overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic response to our 2014 collection, particularly for the new Buckle series and 1898 Sport line, has confirmed our very aggressive growth plans for this year and beyond,” said Paul Ziff, President of Ferragamo Timepieces.

From the crowd’s reaction to the Ferragamo Buckle Collection and 1989 Sport Collection it’s clear the brand has yet again captured the imagination and hearts of fashionistas who demand elegance, sophistication and high craftsmanship.

Rounding out the arrivals for 2014 is the classically styled Cosmopolitan. This sporty 44 mm unisex chronograph features three convenient totalizers for timing events that have been strategically placed within a stunning black dial decorated with fine vertical lines for a sophisticated “pinstripe” effect. Mr. Marai says that sometimes it takes up to a year, working with fashion superstars like Donatella, to finalize a new design, but that the wait is worth it. “There is a new generation and a new type of consumer,” says Marai. “I believe the future will be based more on fashion brands, rather than on traditional watch manufacturing.”
