Who But Eterna Could Make Time Stand Still at Baselworld 2012?

by John Sealander

Eterna Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 1938

Eterna Watches. Nothing by Watchmaking. Since 1856.When one of the finest watches of the late Art Deco period suddenly reappears at Baselworld 2012, you’ll think somebody has made time stand still. In a way, that’s exactly what Eterna has done by reintroducing one of the most iconic watches of the late art deco period: the spectacular 1938 Eterna Chronograph.

For over 150 years, Eterna has surprised the world with unexpected solutions to age old watchmaking challenges. The Eterna Heritage Collection pays tribute to these achievements by reintroducing some of the brand’s most significant milestones. The Eterna Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 1938 is the latest addition to this prestigious collection. This magnificent timepiece certainly deserves its place in history, along with previous Heritage Collection luminaries like the 1973 Super KonTiki and the 1942 Pulsometer.

Eterna Mens 1938.41.45.1250 Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 1938

This complex and perfectly balanced design represents the pinnacle of the art deco movement’s influence on watchmaking. The boldly masculine right angles of the Heritage Chronograph’s rectangular brushed stainless steel case provides the perfect contrast for the delicate, finely detailed geometry and skillful use of color in the art deco influenced dial. The classic “two eye” configuration of the running second hand and 30 minute totalizer is in perfect harmony with the nine Roman numeral hour markers, and the easily readable date window at 6 o’clock.

This watch is a faithful reproduction of the original Eterna 1938 chronograph. The only concessions to modernity are a slightly larger case size to reflect current tastes and the reliable 37-jewel ETA 2894-2 self-winding movement. The watch has an impressive 42-hour power reserve and the traditional pressed in steel case back is water resistant to 165 feet. With its raised, scratch resistant sapphire crystal and elegant stainless steel deployment clasp, this exceptional timepiece is an affirmation of Eterna’s unique ability to marry modern technology with a timeless concept.

Production of the Eterna Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 1938 has been strictly limited to 1,938 pieces, in honor of the original design. If you would like one of these exceptional timepieces for your own collection, you will have to act fast. The exceptional beauty of this watch, combined with its limited production will ensure that it becomes an instant classic. To put one of these art deco beauties on your wrist, contact your authorized Eterna dealer today and reserve your Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 1938 immediately.
